P-AI-roll
About

We used to close payroll by hand. For six hundred people.

P-AI-roll started as a spreadsheet in a BPO in Costa Rica and became the thing we wished had existed.

The story

Tyler Thompson ran payroll operations for a 600-agent BPO for six years. Every Monday the same thing happened: timesheets arrived, somebody reconciled them against the phone system, somebody else argued, and the payout file went out a day late. The hours were in the tools the whole time. Nobody was reading them.

In 2024 he and Dev Okonkwo, then a staff engineer on a time-tracking product, built the first version: a job that read tracker minutes and call logs and wrote a day in 15-minute blocks. The arguments stopped within a month, because the block map was in front of everyone. Corrections replaced approvals. An AI review replaced the Monday triage. The week closed itself.

P-AI-roll, Inc. was incorporated in March 2024 and is based in Austin, Texas. We are 38 people: 14 in Austin and the rest across the US, Mexico and St. Lucia. We pay our own offshore team with the product, every Monday.

What we believe

  • Hours should come from evidence, not memory.
  • Workers should correct their pay, not approve it.
  • Software should recommend; a person should decide.
  • Every paid minute should be traceable to why it was paid.
